The College uses Canvas to facilitate learning in an online format. All Internet, Hybrid, and Web-Enhanced classes are offered through this learning management system. You will log in to Canvas to access your classes each semester.

INSTALLING LOCKDOWN BROWSER. In order to use LockDown Browser for an assessment, you must download the application locally to your computer. If a Canvas created quiz or test has LockDown Browser enabled, you will not be able to complete that assessment within Canvas.
- You should see a hyperlink that says “ Download Respondus Lockdown Browser.” Clicking this will bring you to the download page. Click the Install Now button to download a zip file (.zip). Open the downloads folder and run the file titled “Install Respondus Lockdown Browser.”.
- Download and install LockDown Browser from this link: Download & Install Respondus Lockdown Browser. This link may also be provided by your professor in Canvas.
- Log in using your Coastal Alabama e-mail address and e-mail password.

Most Internet classes require assignments to be completed with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) unless specific software requirements are noted for each course.
Online Tests through Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus Lockdown Browser Download For Canvas Hcc
Some tests may require the use of Respondus LockDown Browser. Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser for taking tests in Canvas. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during a test. If a Canvas test requires that Respondus LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the test with a standard web browser. Respondus LockDown Browser can only be used for taking Canvas tests.
Students must download LockDown Browser onto any computer where you will be taking an exam. Please follow the link provided below to download LockDown Browser. If you used LockDown Browser for testing at Alabama Southern, Faulkner State, or Jefferson Davis, you will need to delete the installation and download the new browser version for Coastal Alabama Community College.

LockDown Browser is a secure browser that can be used to prevent printing, copying, going to unauthorized URLs, or accessing other applications during an in-classroom online Canvas exam. Installing LockDown Browser
LockDown Browser must be installed to each computer (Windows or Mac) that will be used to take an exam. To install LockDown Browser on your computer:
- Shut down all open internet browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
- Open the installer and follow the onscreen instructions to install
- Launch the browser and log into Canvas to confirm your machine isn't running any apps that block your access to the secure browser. You may be asked to quit or 'kill' certain apps that aren't considered secure

- Close all programs
- Launch LockDown Browser
a. Mac users: Launch 'LockDown Browser' from the applications folder
b. Windows users: Locate the 'LockDown Browser' shortcut from the desktop and double-click it - If prompted to close a blocked program (e.g., screen capture, instant messaging), choose 'Yes' when prompted
- Login to your Canvas course
- Navigate to the quiz and select the 'Take a Quiz' link
- Once a quiz has been started with LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the 'Submit Answers' button in clicked
